The meeting was as usual very well organized and well attended, thanks and compliments to the Dykkehistorisk Selskap ( HDS Denmark ) And special thanks to Commander Niels Bucka Mejhede of the Søværnets Specialskole Dykkerkursus ( Danish Navy Diving School ) for allowing us to use the facilities at the base.
A very interesting ‘extra’ to this years’ event was a visit to the town museum in Dragør, near Copenhagen, where until october 2014 a special exhibition is displayed, an exhibition dedicated to the history of diving. The photo’s of the visit to this museum start at image 6058 here below. Museum Director Ingeborg Philips and her crew were awarded in 2013 for their work, at the Annual Conference and Dinner of the English Historical Diving Society in Poole, England. For the exact address and opening hours the website of the museum can be visited at: http://www.museumamager.dk/index.php/en/dragor-museum
The visit to the Holmen navy base was also a personal jubilee because it was exactly 10 years ago that together with Rob Krul we drove to Copenhagen to test-dive the first replica of a Rouquayrol-Denayrouze regulator back pack. This regulator back-pack we had rebuilt after a genuine example which has been in the possession of the ‘Søværnets’ (Danish Navy) since almost 150 years. Since this test dive in 2004 Rob and I we have gone a long way together in rebuilding historical diving gear, which is now displayed in several books and magazines as well as private and museums collections world wide. At the meeting this year we brought a genuine regulator equipment, both a back-pack and a helmet made by Friedrich Flohr from Kiel, Germany. The exact stories of all mentioned so far can be read in the chapters accordingly on this website: http://www.divescrap.com/DiveScrap_INDEX/Krul_%26_Dekker.html and http://www.divescrap.com/DiveScrap_INDEX/Index_Fr._Flohr,_Kiel.html
Photographs: the first 28 images were kindly taken with my camera by Jaap Stenger. The underwater photo’s showing me ( black suit ) are made by Rob Krul, all other photo’s by David L.Dekker
Today I received some photo’s from one of the other attendees, they can be seen here: ALBUM 2
