The OBS A/S reclaim helmet

When visiting the Norwegian State diving school during an excursion organized by the ‘Northern Divers Meeting 2013’ in Bergen, Norway, a helmet was shown which was complete unknown to us. It appeared to be a prototype of a reclaim helmet built by the Norwegian company ‘OBS A/S’. As you can see it is a stainless steel regulator built onto a KM SL17 mainframe.

Update August 2013: many thanks to Teemu from Finland for sharing a sales brochure on the OBS diving helmet.

The bail-out system UBA 90-400 has a duration of 10 - 15 minutes at 400 meters. Tests were performed at NUTEC ( unmanned down to 400 msw ) And a manned operation diving to 180 msw at Seaway Pelican.  Manned chamber diving to 450 msw at the Norwegian National Hyperbaric Centre.

After this KM17 based OBS helmet another project was started up, this time OBS did the administration and the development was carried out by SINTEF. This new helmet is called the FUDT helmet, please check the next chapter to learn more about this project.
